International Workshop Electron-Phonon Effects in Nanosystems |

September 23-25, 2002Montauk Yacht Club, Long Island, New York, USACo-Chairs:László Mihály (Stony Brook), Philip B. Allen (Stony Brook) Vasili Perebeinos (BNL-Physics), Marshall D. Newton (BNL-Chemistry) |

The scope of the workshop will be electronic properties of nanosystems which are influenced by electron-phonon (vibronic) effects. The aims are to: (1) explore the phenomena where vibronic effects may be important; (2) encourage interdisciplinary discussions between physicists and chemists; (3) define issues of potential importance to nanotechnology.
The format of the meeting is designed to encourage discussions. Talks will be in the morning and the afternoon, with ample time for questions and answers; poster presentations are held in the evenings. There will be no parallel sessions. Attendance will be about 65.
Registration Please fill out the form to register.
Venue, expenses: Montauk is on the extreme Eastern end of Long
Island, 130 miles from the center of Manhattan. The Montauk Yacht club
has very pleasant rooms, right on the water. Registration is open
from June 1 to August 23, provided space remains in the Yacht club rooms.
We expect not quite to fill the Yacht club spaces, but to be sure of a
space, please register soon. The registration fee of $558
covers the welcoming reception, the Tuesday banquet, and all meals, and
lodging (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights) at single occupancy.
For double occupancy of a room, the registration fee is $381 each.
Local transportation can be a significant expense. A one way limousine
ride from JFK or LGA to Montauk costs $111 (one passenger, from Spartan
Limousine, tel. 631-928-5454). A less expensive option is the "Hampton
Jitney" bus line, which charges about $44 (round trip). However,
from JFK or LaGuardia, you have to take a 20 minute cab ride from the airport
to their "Fresh Meadows" Jitney Airport Connection. For reservations
and directions to Fresh Meadows, call 1-800-327-0732. Islip Airport
("Long Island Islip" or sometimes "MacArthur") is quite a lot closer to
Montauk. Southwest Airlines has low fares into Islip, and Spartan
Limousine charges $93 for a one-way, one person ride.) To get the
Hampton Jitney from Islip, you also have to take a short cab ride.
"Colonial Taxi" drivers all know where to go. The number for Colonial
is 631-589-7878. Newark Airport is significantly farther
away, and travel to Montauk correspondingly more expensive.
