Directions:

By car
Take Long Island Expressway to exit 62 (Route 97) North. Drive north about 9 miles until reaching the entrances to the Stony Brook campus. Take the second entrance, the “Main” entrance and follow the signs to parking. Lots of visitor parking is available. Parking permits will be necessary for Friday afternoon, so be sure to check that on the registration form if you are driving. The Student Activity Center (SAC) building is at the center of campus. Signs will direct you.

By car-ferry
Ferry from New London to Orient Point (1-860-443-5281): Follow Sound Avenue West, joining Route 25 in Shoreham and ultimately Route 347 in Mt. Sinai. Continue to Nichols Road (Route 97), then north as above.
Ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson (1-888-44FERRY): You will exit the ferry directly onto Route 25A headed toward the University. After East Setauket take the left onto Nichols Road (Route 97) south. The second campus entrance to the right is the “Main” entrance. Proceed as above.

By train
Take the Port Jefferson line and get off at the Stony Brook station. The SAC building is about 400 yards away. Alternatively, take the Ronkonkoma line to Ronkonkoma and take a cab (about $10, but a better schedule and a faster train).

From Islip Airport
Take Rte. 454 East about 2 miles until it merges with Rte. 27 East. Continue on 27 East for a little less than a mile until reaching a sign for Stony Brook. Follow the sign to Route 97 North. Continue on 97 North for about 11 miles until reaching the entrance to the Stony Brook campus.

From JFK or LGA Airports
Cheap way (DON'T DO THIS AT NIGHT): Take a taxi to the Jamaica LIRR (Long Island Rail Road), about $15, and then take one of the trains described above to Ronkonkoma or Stony Brook. Even cheaper, take the bus to Jamica, about $5. Same warnings.

Safer way: Taxi (around at least $100) or airport shuttle (shared ride with other passengers, but $40).

Ground transportation: Follow signs to GROUND TRANSPORTATION DESK near the baggage claim area. In order to avoid long waits at the airport, it is advisable to reserve ground transportation in advance.

Classic Airport Shuttle
(631) 567 5100
(800) 666-4949

Super Shuttle
(212) 258-3826

Airport Limousines: Door-to-Door service in cars and vans is available to and from all airports. The following are a few local shuttle services that often provide service to Brookhaven travelers (reservations a must):

Winston Limousine (631) 924-1200
Spartan Limousine (631) 928-5454
Classic Limousine (631) 567-5100

(The locals use Spartan a lot. The limos are usually shared with at most one other passenger and cost no more, maybe less, than the shuttle, if reserved. If it's been a long time since you were on Long Island and you want a quick reminder of what it's like, a ride in a Spartan Limo will bring it all flooding back...)

Car Rentals: Most major car rental companies are represented at the area airports. Reservations strongly recommended. Get local directions to the Long Island Expressway, then follow the directions above to Stony Brook.
