This
photo, from the 1962 yearbook, shows Cliff looking almost as youthful as
he does today. Cliff was a staff member at Brookhaven Lab, and joined
the faculty at Stony Brook at the very beginning, maintaining for a while
his research effort at Brookhaven in experimental particle physics.
Teaching soon became the greater passion. Cliff has trained several
generations of Long Island physics teachers, and has been editor of the
magazine The Physics Teacher for most of its existence.
Although he officially retired from the faculty in 1995, only in the spring
of 2000 did he announce that he would retire as editor. It
will surely be impossible to replace him.
