Homer Neal

Homer Neal was brought to Stony Brook in 1981 as Provost by President Marburger, and served the University well in this position for six years.  He came to us from Indiana University where he had been Dean and had continued a successful research career in experimental particle physics.  At Stony Brook, he had close relations with the D0 project directed by Prof. Paul Grannis, but did not have time to  teach or actively participate in other department activities.  He left Stony Brook in 1987, becoming chair of the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan.  He was appointed vice president for research in 1993.  In 1996 he  became interim president of the University of Michigan.
