Joseph Serene


Joe served as assistant professor at Stony Brook from 1976 to 1979.  He directed the PhD theses of Jim Sauls and Vijay Samalam.  He resigned to become a Dean at Yale.  Subsequently he was the director of the Materials Theory section of the National Science Foundation.  Then he worked in the Condensed Matter Theory branch at the Naval Research Lab.  He left that position to become chair of the department of Physics at Georgetown University.  Now he is Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
