            The National Science Foundation is soliciting applications for its Nanoscale Science and Engineering program, and once again there are limits on the number of applications that may be submitted by the University:

            Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Teams (NIRT)
                  - 4 applications
            Nanoscale Exploratory Research (NER)
                  - 4 applications
            Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers (NSEC )
                  - 1 application
            Nanotechnology Undergraduate Education (NUE)
                  - 1 application

            I am requesting that all faculty members interested in submitting an  application to any of these programs forward a brief pre-application, no later than Noon, Friday August 16, to Mr. Peter Saal, OVPR Research Resources Center, S-5421 Melville Library (z = 3361). Pre-applications consist of c.v.'s of the PI and co-PI's, a brief description of the proposed research, and its potential contribution to the advancement of nanoscale science and engineering. Please inform your faculty of this deadline.
