Physics 104 "Opportunities in Physics"

This is a random list of articles that lower division physics students might enjoy.

1. Mark A. Reed and James M. Tour, "Computing with Molecules", Scientific American,  web version
2. Mark Sowul found an interesting web page about the history of blood pressure measurement.  This page is maintained by the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering of University College London (UCL)  It is interesting to notice how many incremental improvements in technique and in understanding occurred up to now in what seems to a modern physics student like an elementary measurement.  It illustrates several things -- that vast opportunities exist to apply physics to biology and medicine; even such a simple thing as blood pressure may lead to many years of development and many partial solutions; the present technique is not likely to be the last in the evolution.  Dr. John Hui's visit on February 9, 2004 introduced us to this topic.
