In the Fall of 1978 I taught a course, Physics 682, Special Topics in Solid State Physics,
on Group theory.  Three of the seven enrolled students went on to be professors, one at Northwestern,
one at Ohio State, and one at Stony Brook.  Only one of these is professor of physics.
I will let you guess who these might be.

There were two assigned texts.  One, by Michael Tinkham, Group Theory and Quantum
Mechanics, is still one of the best texts.  It is now reprinted by Dover and sells on Amazon
for $17.22.  The other text was Group Theory and Its Physical Applications
(Chicago Lectures in Physics, out of print) by Leopoldo M. Falicov.   In 1978 this cost $3.00!
Amazon has 3 copies used for about $12 each.
